Business Details

Boat Hire Centre Leisure Marine Business for sale located in Dartmouth Devon

Dartmouth Boat Hire Centre is a super lifestyle business located within the harbour limits of the River Dart in the historic naval town of Dartmouth in the South Hams, South Devon. First established in the mid 1960s, the business was acquired by its current owner in April 2021 who then embarked on a long overdue operational overhaul, infrastructure maintenance program and investment in hire fleet and general assets.

There is a new website which explains pricing and routes together with an online booking system, messaging platforms and email are used to communicate with customers. The business today is in tip top condition and offered by a timely and genuine retirement sale.

The business is operated by our client, supported by seasonal staff as and when required, from a riverside booking kiosk and two floating pontoons situated in the centre of town. Being close to all main amenities, the business is positioned adjacent to the main departure point for commercial craft offering skippered passenger boat pleasure trips and the ferry service for the short journey over to the town of Kingswear on the other side of the harbour.

Offering boat hire sessions for a minimum period of 2-hours, or by the day and by the week, the fleet is currently 10 boats plus a rescue boat and are all inspected by the Harbour Authority annually with boats licensed for up to 8 passengers.

Dartmouth Boat Hire Centre is very much a seasonal business following the typical 7 days per week April 1st to October 31st 10am – 4pm trading model. However, there is ample scope to increase opening hours and expand the hire fleet to include additional boats as a new pontoon has recently been installed mid river. This new pontoon can accommodate a further 8 boats, in addition kayaks, SUP’s and even RIB rides offering coastal tours could be added.

Included in the sale are all assets involved in day-to-day operations (full asset inventory available on request). The booking kiosk and access steps to pontoons (departure point) are Council owned and are secured by way of a commercial lease, the pontoons are owned by the business itself.
