The Marlborough Arms is located on St John Street, just outside the historic walls of the cathedral city of Chester which sits alongside the River Dee on the English/Welsh border.  Chester’s walls are the best preserved in the country and hold Grade II listed status, and the city is equally well-known for its unique black and white buildings, historic towers and gates and amphitheatre.  It is also home to Chester Racecourse.  

The city is easily accessible from various major roads including the M53 motorway to the Wirral and Merseyside, the M56 to Manchester and the A55 to the North Wales coast.  Chester train station serves the city and provides connections to Manchester, Liverpool, Crewe and Holyhead.

The Marlborough Arms occupies a detached, three-storey building of Mock Tudor appearance which dates back to the Victorian era.  The odd pub name spelling - Marlbororough - is due to a sign writer’s error that stuck.
